Changed modem options do not take effect due to type of modem.
Cause:
This occurs with certain types of fax/modems because they are not capable of using the set options.
Solution:
In Microsoft Exchange, select the 'Tools' menu, select 'Microsoft Fax Tools', and select 'Options...'. Click the 'Modem' tab and click 'Properties...'. Make the desired changes and click 'OK' twice.
NOTE: Consult the modem manual to determine the options that can be used with the modem.
1) Double-click the 'Inbox' icon on the Windows 95 desktop.
2) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Microsoft Fax Tools'. (The 'Microsoft Fax Properties' dialog box appears.)
3) Select 'Options....'.
4) Click the 'Modem' tab.
5) Select the appropriate modem and click 'Properties...'. (The 'Fax Modem Properties' dialog box appears.)
6) Do one or more of the following to set the modem properties:
a) To select the fax answer mode, do one of the following in the 'Answer mode' group:
1] Select the 'Answer after' radio button and select the number of rings Microsoft Exchange should wait before answering a fax in the 'rings' drop-down list.
2] Select the 'Manual' radio button to accept faxes manually.
NOTE: If this option is selected, you will be notified of an incoming call.
3] Select the 'Don't Answer' radio button to set Microsoft Exchange to not answer calls.
b) To set the calling preferences:
1] Select the 'Wait for dial tone before dialing' check box to set Microsoft Exchange to wait for dial tone before a fax is sent. (A check mark appears in the check box.)
2] Select the 'Hang up if busy tone' check box to set Microsoft Exchange to automatically hang up if the phone number called is busy. (A check mark appears in the check box.)
c) To set the fax modem volume:
1] Drag the slider in the 'Speaker volume' group to adjust it to the desired position.
2] (Optional) Select the 'Turn off after connected' check box to disable the speaker when the fax transmission begins.
7) Click 'OK' and click 'OK' again.
